    WSUS 3.0 Update

I accidentally posted this in the Windows Server forum, didn't notice this forum included WSUS. Please delete other post.

I have an isolated network that we use WSUS on.  My latest updates wanted me to install WSUS 3.0, so I went through the install, but it needs to connect to either an upstream server or to the Windows update site.  Since this is the upstream server and doesn't connect to the Internet I can't choose either of these options.  And it won't let me complete the setup until I've do one of those two tasks.  Any ideas?

Just wondering, how do you get your updates into WSUS if it isn't connected to the internet?

MS refers to it as "Isolated Segment" deployment.  We have a WSUS server connected to the Internet, which we use to download updates from MS.  We copy those files to our WSUS server that is not connected to the Internet using DVD's.  The we use WSUS utilities to import them in.

we have a closed network, and have to download the updates onto a cd/dvd then import them using the Wsus Utility.

Is the WSUS utility a free 3rd party utility?  Or is this something used within WSUS?  Thanks!

it's just part of WSUS, like an 'import'

    Re: WSUS 3.0 Update

    Hey Joe,

It should let you go ahead and go through the installation process. What I would do is choose the Windows Update option as your upstream server, and then on the screen where you choose "Start Connecting" just let it run until it eventually fails and then proceed through he installation. This should at least get you through the installation. You will of course want to make sure you have it set to sync manually so it isn't there attempting to sync on an internet connection that doesn't exist.

    Hope this helps!
